Hydro Tasmania Consulting this week hosted a high-level Ministerial delegation from Sarawak in Malaysia that could lead to the development of further business opportunities.
The delegation included the Minister of Planning and Resource Management and the Minister for Public Utilities, as well as several officals from the Ministry for Public Utilities and the chairman of Sarawak Energy Berhad.
The delegation was in the State on a three-day trip to see first hand Tasmania's hydropower, renewable energy and water infrastructure assets. It follows a recent visit to Sarawak by Energy Minister David Llewellyn, Hydro Tasmania Chairman David Crean and Scott Baddiley, General Manager of Hydro Tasmania Consulting.
Hydro Tasmania Consulting has been working with Sarawak Energy Berhad since last year on a $1.6 million project involving feasibiltiy studies for four hydro-electric projects.
"We are very pleased to have the delegation in Tasmania," Mr Baddiley said. "We have a long history in hydropower development, operation and maintenance, and our reputation is well regarded internationally.
"It is very exciting to have clients such as Sarawak Energy Berhad visit the State and learn more about how we operate our power system.
"Hydro Tasmania Consulting's knowledge and experience in the development, operation and maintenance of water and energy assets is ideally suited to assist clients such as Sarawak Energy Berhad develop its renewable energy potential.
"We are hopeful of developing further business opportunities following the visit and as a result of the current work we are doing in Sarawak."
The Sarawak region of Malaysia has abundant hydropower potential as well as other renewable energy opportunities which are currently being explored by Sarawak Energy Berhad.
Hydro Tasmania Consulting hosted the delegation at its five-star Green star head office at Cambridge.
The delegation also met with the Premier David Bartlett and Mr Llewellyn during thier visit.
